Ann
My name is Ann and I am 52 years old. Two years ago I was diagnosed as having arthritis in my right ankle which had developed over the years as a result of a bone disease I had when I was a child. My condition slowly deteriorated after the initial diagnosis. I had constant pain and swelling in varying degrees and I was not able to bear weight on my right foot …. A regular routine of yoga exercise has really made the difference for me! After about four months of regular attendance at yoga classes I am able to bear weight on my right foot again, and I can hold poses like Tree, Holy Victory and Dancers. The various series of yoga exercises have strengthened the atrophied muscles in my right leg and throughout my entire body. I am not as limited by my arthritis, and my overall strength, stamina, and balance have improved…As for Theresa, I have attended classes taught by several yoga instructors during the past several months and Theresa is the best! She is a truly gifted teacher. She offers a very challenging Vinyasa workout that leaves me feeling healthy and cleansed.

Yoga has been a wonderful addition to my workout routine. It has not only helped me become stronger, more flexible, and overall more fit, but it has also reduced some anxiety issues I was struggling with. I rode my horse for the first time after giving birth to my daughter and had a panic attack after he displayed some “high spirited” behavior. I realized I was scared to death of getting hurt due to the fact that I was a new mother and wouldn’t be able to care for my children if anything bad happened. I took a break from riding for awhile and just focused on myself and my physical well being. When I decided to try riding again, I got onto my 7 year old horse (with little training) and was pleasantly surprised at how I felt in the saddle. It appears as though my physical strength has allowed my confidence level to go up and therefore my anxiety level went down. I feel that I can now maneuver my body to handle undesirable situations and remain calm in the process. I can also feel a big difference in my hips and chest. Opening up these areas has resulted in better posture which in turn makes me a better rider. I’m not claiming to be a perfect rider but I feel more balanced in the saddle (and my horse is happier).
Yoga is a relaxing yet intense workout that has allowed me to focus on only myself. It can be very hard to give yourself that “permission” to put everything else on hold and concentrate on doing a good thing for your body. As a yoga instructor, Theresa really challenges you to focus only on your practice. She takes the time to make sure the postures are done correctly so you get the full benefit of the practice and when she thinks you are ready for something more she takes you to that next level. When I get out of a yoga class with her I have a clear mind, I’m re-energized, and ready to move on with my day.

My yoga journey began 7 months ago with Theresa Zenner’s Vinyasa Flow Yoga class. I knew little about yoga at the time, but hoped that it might increase my strength, balance, and flexibility. I also hoped that over time, yoga would help me better manage stress as well…. at the end of the 75 minute class, I felt an inexplicable happiness and joy along with a sense that yoga was a perfect fit for me….I could see that yoga had the potential to change my life. Theresa had opened a door to a different way of being in my physical body as well as in the world at large…. Theresa exudes a loving kindness and genuine concern for all of her students regardless of where they are in their yoga practice. She is an authentic and competent teacher that makes yoga accessible to all of her students…. Today, I am stronger and more flexible and can move through my day with a sense of ease and well-being. My posture has improved and I feel much more confident in my everyday movements. Events that used to generate stress in my life, seem far less important to me now. Theresa has shown me that yoga can transform a life both on and off the mat!
LaRae: My Yoga Journey
Since I can remember, I’ve been searching for “something”…never really being able to put my finger on what that “something” was. My journey has allowed me to see and do many wonderful things as a result of my unsettledness but nothing seemed to help fulfill my sense of being or bring calmness to my heart. My friends and family, who know me best, would tell me that it was my personality to be a busy body but this explanation never satisfied me. So, my journey continued through several years and stages of my life: a bachelor’s degree, pets, marketing career, master’s degree, finance career, marathons, promotions, marriage to my wonderful husband, new home, purchases of lots of new things, motherhood, spiritual books, more marathons…you get the picture. Achievement is something that I need little help with but why then was my quest to find “something” so difficult?
One cold November evening last year, I opted to give yoga a try in the privacy of my own home. Never, could I have ever imagined how one decision would have such lasting and truly transformational effects on my life. Yoga has taught me a lot about myself, something that 32 years of life has not; it has taught me how to live. To live each moment to the fullest by being aware of the present. I have gained tremendous mind-body awareness which has allowed me to be more focused in all areas of my life.
The “something” that I was so desperate to find, has been within all along. It wasn’t until I was introduced to yoga that allowed me to be still…truly bringing calmness to my heart! Although my quest to find “something” has ended, my yoga journey has just begun…I can’t wait to see where this new and exciting adventure takes me!
Theresa brings so much energy and passion to her classes; she makes each student feel as though she were speaking directly and only to them. She inspires me to explore myself, and continually challenges me to look deeper into myself. I am constantly finding ways to take Theresa’s wisdom off my mat into life. I feel blessed to have practiced along side of Theresa and I’m thrilled to be able to share her with the rest of the yoga & equestrian community! I hope you enjoy her practice as much as I do!
